New immersive David Bowie show announced at London’s Lightroom
Lightroom, the 360-degree immersive experience venue in North London, has announced a new David Bowie show celebrating the legendary artist’s personality, performances and creative legacy. David Bowie: You’re Not Alone will open on April 22 at the King’s Cross space, combining iconic live moments with rare footage drawn from Bowie’s New York archive, all projected across the venue’s walls and floors. Directed by 59 Productions’ Mark Grimmer and Tom Wexler, the multimedia exhibition presents a new way of experiencing Bowie’s legacy within Lightroom’s signature large-scale environment.
The immersive show invites audiences to step directly into the creative mind of one of music’s most visionary artists. Rather than following a traditional timeline, the 360-degree presentation surrounds visitors with projection, spatial sound and archival material that capture the energy, reinvention and fearless experimentation that defined Bowie’s career. Structured around themes such as songwriting, creative curiosity, spirituality and his enduring outsider identity, the exhibition blends iconic performances with lesser-seen moments to reveal both the mythic performer and the deeply human artist behind the legend.
What sets the experience apart is that every spoken word heard throughout the show is constructed entirely from archival Bowie material (including concerts, interviews and recordings) meaning the narrative unfolds entirely in his own voice, guided by his own thoughts and reflections. Designed to evoke the emotional spirit of iconic moments rather than simply recreate them, the immersive format creates something closer to a live encounter than a museum display, offering fans and newcomers alike a powerful reminder of Bowie’s philosophy of artistic risk-taking and self-expression.
As the creators explain: “We went through about 400 hours of audio material… allowing Bowie to express himself in his own words.”
Ultimately, by letting Bowie tell his own story, the production transforms memory into presence, inspiring audiences to embrace creativity without boundaries.
