Surprise release ‘Lose Your Self’, addresses division and the growing uncertainty shaping modern life.

Enter Shikari have surprise-released a brand new album, continuing their long-standing approach of blending political commentary with genre-defying sound.

The record, titled Lose Your Self’, arrived without prior announcement, marking another unexpected release from the St Albans band. Frontman Rou Reynolds described the project as a reaction to the current global climate, shaped by division, technological change and uncertainty.

Speaking to NME, Reynolds explained that the album pushes back against growing social fragmentation, stating it “goes against that idea that we’re divided.”

A key theme running through the release is the rise of artificial intelligence and its impact on creativity. Reynolds addressed concerns around AI’s role in art, suggesting it risks stripping away human meaning and connection if left unchecked.

Rather than embracing efficiency or automation, the band instead emphasise spontaneity and human interaction as central to their creative process. The album reflects a desire to preserve those elements in an increasingly digital and algorithm-driven world.

The surprise drop also reflects Enter Shikari’s continued independence. The band have long released music on their own label, maintaining control over how and when their work reaches audiences.

Formed in 2003, Enter Shikari have built a reputation for combining electronic music with post-hardcore and rock, often tackling political and social issues in their lyrics. Their previous album, ‘A Kiss for the Whole World’, gave them their first UK number one, further cementing their position as one of the UK’s most distinctive alternative acts.

With ‘Lose Your Self’, the band once again position themselves at the intersection of music, technology and society — using the surprise release not just as a statement of intent, but as a response to what Reynolds sees as an increasingly chaotic and divided world.
