Rounding up the best new releases from the past week
The pop superstar returns with his first single in four years. Aperture is an intriguing five-minute stretch of dance-in-your-bedroom electronic bliss, leaning into disco textures while still feeling intimate and restrained. If this is the opening statement for the new album, we’re very ready to hear what comes next.
The Minneapolis hardcore girl band continue to channel the anger and unrest of a city under pressure. Lifted from their blistering 18-minute debut record, Peppa Pig is the standout cut, all noise, fury and sharp political bite.
The up-and-coming punk duo are releasing their first full-length record this week, and Get a Life is the strongest single to emerge so far. It captures the chaos and intensity of their live shows and translates it perfectly to record.
Arctic Monkeys – Opening Night
The first single in a long time from the AM camp, and the lead track from War Child’s upcoming Help2 charity album. Opening Night sees Alex Turner marry his modern, suave vocal delivery with a more classic, Humbug-era rock sound, making for a surprisingly nostalgic return.
Charlotte Sands – One Eye Open
Packed with raw energy and powerhouse vocals, Charlotte Sands continues her rise at the sharp end of modern rock and metal. With her new album due out in March, One Eye Open feels like a statement of intent and a must-listen for fans of heavy, emotionally charged pop-rock.
