The albums we can’t stop talking about this month

Welcome to Sound Check — a new monthly column where NMM ranks every album we’ve listened to over the past month. Whether we wrote a full review or not, this is your cheat sheet to the good, the great, and the forgettable. It’s a lighter month for us, having only launched three weeks ago, but there are still some heavy hitters and breakout albums worth shouting about.

#1 PUP: Who Will Look After the Dogs?
A certified NMM favourite, PUP have never released a bad album — and their latest is no exception. Dogs hits a little softer than their usual chaos, but still delivers trademark catchy riffs paired with raw, self-aware lyricism that cuts deep and sticks around.

#2Sleep Token: Even in Arcadia
Masked metal outfit Sleep Token return with their strongest release yet — landing just in time to top the Billboard 200 and drum up hype for their Download Festival headline slot. No single quite hits the heights of last year’s “Chokehold,” but the album raises the overall bar and solidifies their upward trajectory.

#3 Spacey Jane: If That Makes Sense
The Aussie indie darlings drop their sparkling third album, already taking the southern hemisphere by storm. Check out standout singles “Whateverrrr” and “All the Noise” — both obnoxiously catchy in the best way.

Rounding things out:
Yeule releases a breakout record featuring the single “Dudu” — a track you’ll be hearing everywhere. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets deliver another solid rock effort, while The Callous Daoboys offer a compelling, if not game-changing, project. And yes, Arcade Fire and Sleep Theory also dropped new material — for better or worse.

Check back next month for our June picks.
