Turnstile Never Enough

Melodic. Hardcore. Masterclass.

The long-anticipated album NEVER ENOUGH is finally here from Baltimore hardcore legends Turnstile. It’s been four years since their third album GLOW ON revolutionised modern hardcore with its blend of raw aggression and melodic, piano-driven moments. Since then, the band has undergone some changes — both internally and in terms of public perception.

Founding guitarist Brady Ebert left the band in 2022, and was replaced by Meg Mills, who began touring with the band in 2023. In the meantime, Turnstile’s popularity has soared, with NEVER ENOUGH covered by every major music publication and the band headlining multiple festivals this year. Check them out at Outbreak Festival this week.

As always, Turnstile have delivered a masterclass in album-making. Each track flows seamlessly into the next, building a complete sonic experience. The record moves between floaty, melodic interludes and the punchy hardcore anthems the band is known for. Tracks like “SOLE” and “BIRDS” lean into their hardcore roots, while heavier songs like “DREAMING” experiment with unexpected elements — including horn and brass sections cutting through the chaos.

DULL” stands out as a perfect middle ground between the soft and the heavy — a track with an anthemic chorus that’s destined to get crowds bouncing. Softer cuts like “I CARE” and “SEEIN’ STARS” provide welcome breathers from the intensity but still carry the same pulse. The drums stay relentless, and shimmering electronic textures keep the energy flowing.

Brendan Yates remains at the heart of it all, his vocals effortlessly switching between tender and ferocious. Guest appearances by Hayley Williams (Paramore) and Blood Orange are tastefully understated, allowing Turnstile’s core identity to shine.

The only knock on NEVER ENOUGH is that it doesn’t quite surpass the near-perfect GLOW ON. That album’s cultural and sonic impact still looms large — but NEVER ENOUGH doesn’t try to top it. Instead, it pushes in new directions with the same fearless spirit.

Turnstile remain as hardcore as ever, yet continue to push the genre forward. Few bands sound anything like this — and right now no one sounds this good.
