Ready, Steady, Go! Harry Styles Kicks off Tour in Amsterdam

Last night Harry Styles kicked off the Together Together tour in Amsterdam with the kind of maximalist pop spectacle only he could really pull off: part stadium show, part underground disco, part endurance test. Performing inside a huge box-shaped stage planted deep into the Johan Cruijff ArenA crowd, Styles spent most of the night sprinting laps around the runway, making a 50,000-capacity venue somehow feel intimate while simultaneously looking like he was training for a half marathon.

What immediately stood out was just how committed he is to the new material. Rather than hiding behind the hits, Styles built the entire show around the glossy, strange world of Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally., complete with massive string sections, extended electronic breakdowns and moments that felt closer to a rave than a traditional arena concert. “Taste Back” dissolved into Underworld’s “Born Slippy”, “Treat People With Kindness” borrowed from Talking Heads, while “Aperture” arrived underneath a giant disco ball that turned the entire stadium silver.

During the middle section of the show Harry Showed off his new box + cross shaped stage, running laps to interact with the crowd and to get up his Strava stats.

Still, he knows exactly when to deliver the classics. “Golden”, “Adore You” and “Watermelon Sugar” kept the crowd permanently unhinged, while the encore, “Matilda”, “Sign of the Times” and a completely reworked Grammy 2023-style version of “As It Was”, reminded everyone why he remains one of the few genuine modern stadium acts.

More than anything, opening night felt like a celebration of Harry Styles’ expanding musical world. One minute he’s fronting sweeping orchestral ballads, the next he’s throwing himself through pounding dance breakdowns with the energy of a club DJ. It was messy, excessive and occasionally bizarre, exactly as a Harry Styles show should be.
